Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.
The principal objective of Title IX is to avoid the use of federal money to support sex discrimination in education programs and to provide individual citizens effective protection against those practices. Title IX applies, with a few specific exceptions, to all aspects of federally funded education programs or activities.
Though it may apply to sports, Title IX actually requires equal opportunities for both genders in all aspects of education.
Schools (elementary through the university level) are required by law to designate a Title IX Coordinator. Title IX coordinators as well as all faculty, students, coaches, and community members can file a complaint of Title IX violation with the Office of Civil Rights.
The District designates the following person to coordinate its efforts to comply with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as amended:
“In compliance with the requirements of Title IX, 34 C.F.R. section 106.45(b)(10), all materials used to train the District’s Title IX personnel are available below and are also available for inspection upon request by contacting the Title IX Coordinator.”
