MHS Mavettes

Team

In the fall, the Marshall Mavettes drill team perform at Varsity football games accompanied by the Big Red Pride Band of Marshall High School. The Mavettes also attend contests in the winter, as well as put on a Spring Show in April.

Founded in 1969 by Mrs. Charlsie Cooke, the Marshall Mavettes represent MHS and the community of Marshall. The Mavettes are known for their high kicks and red lips. Ms. Cooke directed the Mavettes for 15 years before retiring, and the team has seen a total of 15 directors over the ensuing 35 years. But one thing that has not changed is the commitment of working toward being one of the most-recognized high school drill teams in the state. As the yearbook entry states, coming off the much larger pep squad, there were just over 100 young ladies in the very first squad of Mavettes in 1969. In 2024, the team consists of 32 Mavettes, which includes 27 line members and 5 officers.

Directors

The Mavettes are under the leadership of Ms. Jordan Jones and assisted by Mrs. Hayley Cooper.

Ms. Jones was a Marshall Mavette herself from 2009-2012. Ms Jones was then chosen as a Trinity Valley Community College Cardette. As a Cardette, she had the privilege of traveling to perform in Europe, as well as many other events throughout Texas. After TVCC, Ms. Jones graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 where she was a member of the UT Steel Dance Company. Ms. Jones has taught for several years, serving as the MJHS Dance Team Director in 2023. The JH team made history as they competed in their first competition as a program. Ms. Jones is blessed to be given the opportunity to direct the Marshall Mavettes. The Mavettes are known for excellence in more than just dance, and Ms. Jones strives to continue to push the core values that you find within each Mavette.

Mrs. Cooper was a proud Marshall Mavette from 2014 to 2017, serving as a Lieutenant her Junior and senior year. After high school, she continued her dance journey as a member of the UT Arlington dance team. While there, she had the opportunity of competing in the prestigious NDA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Mrs. Cooper also worked as an instructor at the Dance bag for 3 years where she taught various styles of dance and coached competition teams and soloists. Alongside being the Mavette Assistant Director, Mrs. Cooper is also the director of the Marshall Jr. High Dance Team. She loves sharing her passion with young dancers, while striving  to uphold a standard of excellence both in and out of the dance room.
