With rain in the forecast for tomorrow, we just wanted to remind our families that if it is raining in the morning, the 3-5 drop off location gate will be locked and one line will form for drop off following the same procedures as our usual afternoon pickup.
On inclement weather days, we will start unloading students at 6:50 am to help with traffic flow and timeliness. Please ensure your student is ready to exit your vehichle with all of their belongings.
Again this is only if it is raining in the morning and afternoon dismissal procedures will remain the same.
Thank you for helping us make our students safety our top priority.
Have a great evening! ❤️🤘🏽Mrs. Livingston

STEM families,
We wanted to remind you all that tomorrow, 08/27/2024, is picture day. All students should be in uniform dress for pictures.
We have also been seeing many students out of dress code. A copy of the MISD elementary dress code was sent home with all students and is in the August newsletter. The dress code is enforced on our campus in accordance with the MISD Discipline Matrix. If you have any specific questions, please reach out to our office for further clarification.
Thank you all for your patience and cooperation with afternoon dismissal. It has gotten quicker with each day and will continue to improve. A few ways you can help: make sure your student's car tag is visible until the student is safely in your vehicle, the school day ends at 3:20 pm, and all students should be picked up no later than 3:45 pm; ALL transportation changes (k-5) must be called into the front office or your student will be sent home via their usual route of transportation. All early check-outs and transportation changes must be completed before 2:30 pm.
To ensure the safety of all students, if you do not have your student's car tag for pick-up or someone else is picking them up at the end of the day, you will be asked to come inside and present your ID. The safety of our students is of the utmost importance, and we want to ensure the same as they leave our campus to return home.

Please review the First Day of School procedures, traffic guidelines, and map regarding student drop-off and pick-up. For student safety and to minimize traffic disruptions, parents will ONLY be permitted to walk their students to class or the building on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
If you were not able to attend meet the teacher, you should be able to view your child’s homeroom teacher in Skyward. We will also have that information available in the cafeteria on the first day of school. If you requested additional car tags or mergers, these will be sent home with your child on the first day of school.
To help our students learn and master new cafeteria expectations, lunch visitors or guests are not allowed for the first two weeks of school. Lunch visitors can begin to join us on August 26, 2024.
Campus opens at 7:00 am
The Tardy Bell rings at 7:31
The school day is from 7:31 to 3:21
During the first week of school, please be patient as everyone adjusts to student drop-off and pickup procedures. Our main priority is ensuring the safety of our students. Your cooperation in ensuring your student is ready to safely exit your vehicle with all of their belongings will help the line move as quickly as possible. Lines and traffic will improve after the first week of school.
We are excited for a wonderful year at Sam Houston!

We're so excited to see you at Meet the Teacher tonight! Our Parent Teacher Organization volunteers will be here to greet you and help you move around campus. In 2023-2024, families and PTO funded field trips at every grade level, NEW sporting equipment for all our kids, STAAR Pep Rally, staff Christmas Party, and much more! EACH PTO PAID membership of $5 will earn the child one personalized "ice cream scoop" for their teacher's "cone" on the enormous wall of fame at our Cafeteria. There is NO limit to the number of $5 membership dips a child can earn as one first-grader is trying to get five from all his family tonight.

The Back-to-School Countdown is FINALLY here! Reading during the Summer is SO Important! We have a BIG back-to-school Sam Houston Surprise to reveal, but first, let's get to reading!!
We are releasing the Sam Houston STEM Bingo Challenge to help your child stay on track and prepare to return to school in August!
Here are the rules:

2. Students who complete 5 tasks to create a BINGO will receive a certificate and be invited to our reading challenge celebration at the beginning of the 24-25 school year.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, 05/22, is our Annual SH Water Day. You should have received a note that went home, as well as digital correspondence. I did however forget to mention, students will want to wear some type of shoes that can get we but also protect their feet when walking between slides and events, crocs, flipflops, water shoes, etc., are acceptable.
They may also bring money for concessions, an ice cream truck, and a taco truck. Lunch will be served as normal from the cafe, and if your student normally brings lunch, I would encourage them to do so tomorrow as well. They will eat with their teachers in the classroom or picnic style.
Kona Ice is NOT on 05/22/2024 but will be here on the last day of school, 05/23/2024. Thursday, 05/23, is also an early dismissal for students at 12:06 p.m. Please be sure you have called before 10:30 a.m. with any transportation changes and have made arrangements for your student to be picked up on time.
Please get in touch with our office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

School Climate Survey Information for Parents
Our highest priority at Sam Houston STEM Academy as a school community is ensuring the safety, well-being, and success of our students and staff. Seeking insight from all stakeholders provides us with an opportunity to work together and contribute to a shared school vision.
School climate refers to the quality and character of school life, and research has shown that it has a very sizable impact on student learning.
The School Climate Survey serves as a tool to help administrators gain an in-depth understanding of our school climate and how campus administration can best meet the needs of our students, families, faculty, and staff. Participants will be asked about their perceptions of student engagement, school environment, and safety.
The Google Form Survey linked below can be accessed online from May 14, 2024, to May 22, 2024. The results will solely be shared with the Sam Houston campus administration and MISD district administration.
Survey link:
https://forms.gle/ietqBdzuqwmzr6d19
The survey results, which are entirely anonymous and will not identify any person or their responses, will help our campus improve student relationships, learning conditions, and the school's overall environment. As always, our ultimate goal is to continually foster student growth and achievement and ensure our students, faculty, and staff's sense of well-being.
Your participation in the School Climate Survey is not only valuable but also crucial. Your insights and perspectives as parents are essential in shaping our school environment. We encourage you to take the time to fill out the survey. Please remember that the survey must be completed online via the link listed above by May 22, 2024. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at
livingstonjb@marshallisd.com or (903) 927-8862.

Good afternoon, SH families,
Tomorrow morning, several charter buses will be parked on Travis St. in front of the school for students traveling off campus for the day. We will still have two drop-off lines as usual. Please do not form a line in front of the school to avoid blocking MISD buses dropping off students in the circle drive bus drop off. We will start the line at the 4-way stop if you arrive before 7 am. Once the buses have departed, the drop-off lines will flow as usual. If you should have any questions, you can contact me by email before tomorrow morning at
livingstonjb@marshallisd.com. Thank you, and have a great evening!
