This is the image for the news article titled MISD Officially Hires Dr. Richele Langley As SuperintendentDr. Richele Langley was officially hired as the 24th Superintendent in the history of Marshall public schools during a short Special Called Meeting of the Marshall ISD Board of Trustees Monday evening.

The meeting was a mere formality to officially vote to hire Dr. Langley following the state-required 21-day waiting period after she was named lone finalist for the position on April 1. Dr. Langley will officially begin her duties as Superintendent on Monday, May 3.

Following the board meeting vote, a meet-and-greet reception was held in the Pat Smith-Gasperson Board Room, with district staff and community members and leaders in attendance to welcome MISD's new Superintendent.

Dr. Langley is no stranger to Marshall or MISD. The 1983 graduate of Marshall High School has spent 22 of her 31 years in education in her hometown, serving Marshall's students. She becomes just the second female Superintendent in the history of MISD, with the first being Pat Smith-Gasperson from 1984-1994. Ironically, Dr. Langley was a graduate of MHS just a year before Mrs. Smith became Superintendent.

Dr. Langley has served as the Deputy Director of Region 8 Education Service Center since 2015. Prior to that, she had served 22 years as a teacher, principal and central office administrator in MISD. She was the district's Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and School Improvement from 2012-2015.

Dr. Langley succeeds Dr. Jerry Gibson, who was Superintendent at MISD from July 2016 through January of this year. Dr. Gibson is now serving as Superintendent of Galveston ISD.

Dr. Glenn Hambrick has been serving as MISD's Interim Superintendent since Feb. 1.

The hiring of Dr. Langley caps a four-month search for a new MISD superintendent. The MISD school board enlisted the services of Thompson & Horton LLP to conduct a nationwide search for candidates, a search that produced over 40 applicants. Of those, the board chose to interview eight.

Richele and her husband, Randy, have two grown children who are also alumni of MISD: son Blake (MHS Class of 2009) is currently an Assistant Principal at Foster Middle School in Longview ISD, and daughter Taylor (MHS Class of 2012) is an ER/Trauma Nurse. Dr. Langley's mother, Patsy Bailey, also resides in Marshall and has been a longtime realtor in the area.
