MISD Statement On COVID-19 Protocols

This is the image for the news article titled MISD Statement On COVID-19 ProtocolsThis past Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott lifted the statewide mandate for masks that had been in place in Texas since last July as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Marshall ISD students and staff have been required under that mandate to wear face coverings in school and school-related activities this year. The Texas Education Agency has also announced it recommends that local districts make their own decisions regarding continuation of these policies in local schools.

Marshall ISD will continue to require that all students and staff wear face coverings in accordance with the protocols that have been in place all year until further notice. These health and safety protocols will remain in place for the following reasons:

• Educators have just this week been placed on the priority list to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We want our staff to have a reasonable opportunity to receive the vaccine, if they so choose, prior to changing any of our current protocols.

• The number of COVID-19 cases and issues related to positive cases has diminished recently in our schools. Our active case and quarantine numbers are at their lowest point since the start of the school year in August. While we are very encouraged by this, we need to continue to monitor this trend before lifting our safety protocols.

It is our hope in the near future that we can remove the face covering requirement in our schools. Thank you for your support of our schools during this most challenging of all school years. We will continue to keep those in our community who have been affected by COVID-19 in our thoughts and prayers.
