Search Timeline

This preliminary timeline is based on the assumption that a new superintendent for the Marshall Independent School District will be on duty on a part-time basis by May 3, 2021, and on a full-time basis on June 7, 2021, and may be modified according to the Board-approved begin date. This timeline is subject to change throughout the process of the search.

January 11
• Meet with the Board of Trustees to discuss superintendent search
• Begin posting of advertisements with the Texas Association of School Administrators, TexasISD.com and other appropriate national education publications (Education Week and American Association of School Administrators) as decided by the Board of Trustees.

January 13
• Mail letters to over 100 school leaders across Texas and the United States inviting nominations of outstanding candidates. These school leaders will be members of the American Association of School Administrators, Western States Benchmarking Consortium and leading university professors of educational administration.
• Mail letters of invitations to outstanding individuals known to have the prerequisite skills for the superintendency in the Marshall Independent School District.
• Contact and recruit outstanding professionals for nominations and application for the position of superintendent of schools in Marshall ISD.

February 9
• Community Input - meet with senior staff, community focus groups, media and Board of Trustees

February 10
• Community Input - online community survey (available Feb. 10-17)

March 1
• Application Deadline

March 4
• Search consultants meet with Board of Trustees to identify candidates to interview

March 15-20
• First round of interviews

March 22-27
• Second round of interviews

March 29-April 2
• Background checks
• District visits
• Final agreements

April 5
• Identification of finalist(s) for position of superintendent of schools
• Begin 21-day period for official employment and contract execution

April 5-26
• 21-day period to finalize the details of contract with lone finalist (required by state law)
• Candidate visits the district

April 26
• Approve employment contract

May 3
• Superintendent assumes position on a part-time basis (negotiable)

June 7
• Superintendent assumes position on a full-time basis (negotiable)
