MHS Archery Competes At State Tournament

This is the image for the news article titled MHS Archery Competes At State TournamentThe Marshall High School AFJROTC (Air Force Junior ROTC), Marshall TX-20024, competed in the Texas-NASP State Archery Tournament this past weekend, finishing in the top half of teams competing at the event.

The MHS cadets finished 30th out of 59 teams at the event, which was held in Belton. The tournament completed a successful season for Marshall’s team, which was making their first appearance at the state tournament.

Cadet Kenny Jones led Marshall with a score of 274, which ranked him 86th out of 541 archers in the High School Boys Division. Jones’ score ranked 24th out of 109 seniors at the event.

Cadet Dakota Allen scored 265, which ranked 157th in the high school division and 41st in the seniors division. Allen was also named an Academic Archer. Teammate Samuel Cooper scored 260 and was 199th in the high school division and finished 48th out of 131 juniors at the event and was also named Academic Archer.

Rounding out the top 5 scorers for Marshall were cadet Jonathan Acuna (259, 205th in high school and 52nd in juniors) and cadet Esteban Flores-Guillen (253, 255th in high school and 63rd in seniors).

In the girls division, cadet Corrina Kreuziger led Marshall with a 247, which ranked 229th out of 476 archers and 47th out of 90 seniors. She was named an Academic Archer as well. Brianna Foyt scored a 237, with was 284th in high school girls and 90th among 163 sophomore girls.

Rounding out the top 5 girls for Marshall were Lauren Pritchard (232, 314th high school and 79th junior girls; Cheyenne Page (228, 323rd high school and 108th sophomores) and Kiana Abercrombie (155, 464th high school girls and 157th sophomores).

The Marshall cadets were also given the honor of presenting the colors for the opening ceremonies at the state tournament. Instructor for Marshall TX-20024 is MSgt (Ret) Michael Brian Cumberland.

The National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) is an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students in grades 4-12. Through it, students learn focus, self-control, discipline, patience, and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life.
