This is the image for the news article titled September Above and Beyond: Marisol Lopez, Crockett ElementaryCongratulations to Ms. Marisol Lopez, 4th Grade Bilingual teacher at David Crockett Elementary, who was named the September "Above and Beyond" recipient at last week's Regular School Board Meeting!

Ms. Lopez had 22 students in her class last year, and 19 of them passed the 4th grade STAAR Reading test! Two of the remaining three only missed passing by a few points. As a result of her students' performance, she and another Writing teacher led the "David Crockett's Way" summer and Beginning of the Year Staff Development on Writing.

She was joined at Monday's meeting by a handful of her successful students, including (pictured, left to right): Alonso Escalona, Gael García, Joselyn Martínez-Hernández, Yareismi Baltazar, and Abigail Ragoyta. She also gave credit to her other students who were unable to attend Monday's meeting: Ismari Abrego, Ismerai Abrego, Joan Almanza, Yuritzi Cabrera, Jade Cano, Gabriel Jaimes, Jeaneliz Marrero, Jesus Maldonado, Daisy Martinez, Geiser Martinez, Enrique Martinez, Antonio Mendez, Leonardo Monzalvo, Elias Ordóñez, Oscar Ramos, Yasmín Rodriguez, and Yaritza Velasque.

"They all strived to be top-notch in writing and everything else," Ms. Lopez said.

Since the start of school, she has also been instrumental in having volunteers sign up for David Crockett and with her team has created Family Bilingual Nights for this upcoming year. She was also on the district team that won $250 for her classroom.

Thank you, Marisol, for your dedication, commitment and love for our students!
