With the victory, the Lady Mavs improve to 7-16 overall on the season. Marshall opens District 16-5A play Friday afternoon in Hallsville.

The Lady Mavs’ comeback victory Tuesday was a nice way to end the non-conference slate. Coach Kayla Green, in her first season as head coach of the Lady Mavs, has preached the importance of finishing and closing out sets and matches strong. The Lady Mavs showed that trait may be catching on with Tuesday’s late surge past the Tigers.

Trailing 2-1 in games after a 25-17 loss in set three, Marshall outlasted Arp 25-21 in the fourth set and then started strong in set five to cruise to the comeback victory.

Ja’Kiya Fisher led the offense with 14 kills on the night, with another 12 kills coming from Kiari Johnson. Defensively, Chloe Buchanan paced the back line with a match-high 27 digs.

Cate Truelove added 14 assists, 10 digs and an ace, and Gabby Moore finished with 13 assists, 7 digs and 2 aces. Emily Ellenburg chipped in 10 digs and a team-high 6 aces as well.

Marshall’s district opener Friday starts at 4:30 at Hallsville High School.
