District 9-5A in football only will include eight teams, largely unchanged from the last two years. The only change is Texas High, which played at the 5A Division I level the last two seasons, taking the place of Lindale, which has dropped to Class 4A Division I.

The Mavs’ district opponents for the next two years are Hallsville, Jacksonville, Mt. Pleasant, Nacogdoches, Pine Tree, Texas High and Whitehouse.

Marshall has won three straight district championships and is sitting on a district winning streak of 25 straight victories dating back to the 2016 season. Ironically, Texas High was the last Marshall district opponent with a victory over the Mavs, a 36-18 win in Maverick Stadium on Sept. 23, 2016.

The Mavs’ streak of three straight years with unbeaten records in district began on Sept. 29, 2017, when Marshall won 35-33 at Texas High in the most recent installation of the historic rivalry between the two teams that dates back to the first recorded meeting in 1911.

Realignments were also announced for basketball and volleyball, with Marshall placed in District 15-5A with Hallsville, Longview, Mt. Pleasant, Pine Tree, Sulphur Springs and Texas High.

The realignments for spring sports such as baseball, softball and soccer will be announced later this spring.
