Lady Mavs' Angie Garcia Named To Soccer Academic All-State Team

Marshall Lady Mavs soccer coach Wayne Borden informed Garcia of the award Monday.

“I was very surprised,” said Garcia, who would like to attend the University of Texas at Tyler after graduating from MHS. “Coach hadn’t really mentioned anything about it so when I actually got the news it was very exciting.”

Garcia, who is a senior captain in her final season with the Lady Mavs this year, would also like to try out for the women’s soccer team at UT Tyler. She wants to major in Kinesiology with a focus on Athletic Training, and said she is looking at Accounting as a possible minor.

Angie is the daughter of Antonio and Claudia Garcia.

TASCO was founded in 1983 by high school soccer coaches across the state as a way to support the growth of the sport in Texas. TASCO currently awards scholarships to deserving high school seniors each year, as well as, scholarships to member coaches to attend coaching education opportunities. Today, TASCO plays a major role in helping soccer grow within the University Interscholastic League. TASCO has grown to over 2500 current members from the original handful of members who formed the organization back in 1983. Our yearly clinics are expanding exponentially and have grown to over 600 participants.
